hmmm.... well this was supposed to be sorta like sunrise time-ish, but i dunno if it ended up looking that way XD; It also scanned really horrible for some reason and i had to fix it a lot in photoshop =_= i got a new fancy grey paper sketchbook that i love! but the paper does not withstand my horrible abuse so well D8
I made Jamie stay up all night cuz I was drawing this till the sun rose every time i worked on it. yep XDD
This is actually a redo of the drawing i posted earlier. I tried the shading using refs and it just did NOT work out. for some reason I got it to work much better without them so if anything's wonky you know why XD But yeh, Jamie has lotsa trees around his house yus! and they makes shadows.
Anywho, thats all i think! Other than I may be coloring it later maybe? dunno yet!
well this is just so beautiful!! Your really did a great job. Nothing jumps out at me right away for being "wonky." Where did you get the sketchbook? I've been wanting one for a while.

Wonderful atmosphere to this one, you set light and shadow absolutely gorgeous. I don't think you should really color it, it's got something magical the way it is ^^

I'm still working on getting that photo of my roomy.
I've started a media arts and digital design class. Ive never done any of this stuff before. Never even used photoshop.
Would you be willing to help me out a little? I think your work is fantastic. Some of the most consistently expressive drawings I've seen on dA are yours. I was just wondering if you've come across any useful websites/tutorials for working digitally.
Awe thank you so much! I'd love to help! I'm not sure of any tutorials, I just sort of went at it when I started. Photoshop is relatively easy, and I'd recommend just opening a blank document and playing around with brushes and such to get a feel for things. (stay away from filters, they are nooooo good) I have a few artists I look at for inspiration though, that could help! =3 first fave is Sam Weber: [link] He's great to look at because it's not hard to figure out what he does, and I think he uses digital in a really great way. He does something similar to what i do (he and james jean are where i got the idea XD) only instead of colorizing pencil renderings he colorizes watercolor paintings. and speaking of, you should check out the master as well, James Jean: [link] he's doing a lot of traditional work lately, but he does amazing work digitally as well. Joshua Middleton is also really great with digital, and he does mostly digital painting. There's a tutorial on his website as to how he works, but basically he starts with a simple neat pencil drawing, and paints and shades everything digitally, then layers light watercolor textures over it [link] My teacher always says the best way to go about digital work is to supplement it with traditional drawings and media. I.E. using traditionally drawn things to start with, adding textures, making your own brushes using hand painted swatches and using brushwork and hand-done elements. Doing this automatically makes a digital piece look tons better. Unless of course you're ridiculously good at digital. I know a lot of people like my friend *bardoftheseas does everything digital all the way through and it ends up looking great! But if you're not used to this i think starting traditional is the way to go. Sorry I can't really help you in the way of tutorials, I have yet to use any personally XD; But I know they're a great tool! I've done two of them for digital painting if you wanna check them out (not too good at explaining things without pictures) Let me know if you've got any more questions, I'd be glad to help! =3

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on.
